The Benefits of Strength Training

Strength training is fundamental to what we do at MAGIC. Our programmes focus on strength training, our AI is focussed on strength training, and our dumbbells make sure that our customers can see progress as they make strength gains. But why is this so important?

  1. Strength training improves body composition. Strength training reduces body fat whilst simultaneously building lean muscle mass. Studies have shown that people who consistently engage in strength training are less likely to gain excess body fat, and lower levels of body fat are known to reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
  2. Helps manage blood glucose. Higher levels of muscle mass are associated with better blood sugar control, reducing the risk of diabetes, and keeping your energy levels up.
  3. Reduces levels of inflammation in the body. Increased levels of inflammation in the body can speed up the aging process, whereas strength training has been shown to reduce this inflammation.
  4. Helps support brain health. Resistance training has been proven to sharpen brain health by promoting the growth of new brain cells and increasing blood flow to the brain. This can help with general cognitive function and memory - so you stay sharper for longer!
  5. Promotes heart health. Studies have shown that adding even 60 minutes of resistance training per week has been shown to reduce risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, and improve cholesterol levels.
  6. Maintains bone and muscle health. Strength training not only helps to reduce the risk of falls and fractures, but also helps to make day to day tasks easier. You’ll notice carrying shopping bags becomes much easier after a few weeks following a program!
  7. Finally, strength training helps you feel good! That feeling of lifting weights and seeing yourself get stronger each week - that can’t be beaten. And when you feel good, you feel confident and happy.
